Answers below - thanks so much for your time working on this project (especially chasing people like me - apologies again!!)

My vision is that in 2030 people have a great choice of transport options which are safe, accessible, affordable and planet friendly to suit their lifestyle needs and ensure our city flows for everyone.

  • We need to get connected, future focussed planning underway.
  • Prioritise transport planning to ensure Dunedin flows for everyone.
  • Update the 2013 Transport Strategy (you might have heard me asking
  • staff “when???”)
  • Plan to ensure Dunedin gets a fair share of Waka Kotahi funding by targeting national funding and ensuring we’re “shovel ready”
  • Establish a City-Wide Transport forum quarterly for better communication between stakeholders and residents.
  • Investigate alternative parking solutions which enable people and businesses to prosper while keeping the city vibrant.
  • Encourage changes to low emission transport by offering multi forms, convenient, safe transport options for the community.
  • Get the Otepoti Pathways Plan completed ASAP. Join up the cycle lanes in the city before starting other cycle projects to ensure there is a connected, safe cycleway for people to use.
  • Get the buses back, so DCC can control services.

My top priorities are:

  • Complete the Otepoti Dunedin Pathways Plan (this covers both walking
    and cycling).
We need an overall helicopter view plan to ensure we’re
making sensible decisions to connect the entire network so its easy to
use. This will inform the priorities for which cycle/walkways we
invest in. This is urgent, and will also help inform all Councillors
of the logic of the cycle and walking investments to encourage their
    support.

  • Finish the Albany cycleway. This is vital for connecting the city
    and university.

  • Sort out the issue on Portsmouth Drive crossing. I drive past every
day, and it’s a big worry!

My main goal is to make Dunedin the best place to live in NZ, a city that works for everyone.
That means we will rank the highest in NZ for livability and the best lifestyle.
An important focus is on ensuring we create attractive, accessible public spaces for everyone to enjoy.

My vision is that in 2030 Dunedin’s public spaces are proudly reflective of our heritage and vitality, attractive easily accessible quality places everyone is drawn to enjoy.

Having looked at great cities overseas, I believe that we need to have quieter streets in key areas to establish places people want to be. I supported George St changes to help make a much better space for shopping, eating, entertainment and put some life back into a grey rundown area. The Octagon is very sad and needs love (and investment) to ensure it bounces back as the beating heart of our city.

All the best
Sophie
