Explicitly opposes active transport advocacy, stating it’s not council’s role. Focuses solely on “basics” - roads, rubbish, water - while keeping rates low. Opposes borrowing for non-revenue projects.

Dunedin already offers a variety of scenic walking trails and beaches that cater to all fitness levels, where the local population can experience Dunedin’s stunning landscapes and rich animal biodiversity. Dunedin is the most scenic city in New Zealand and would be more pleasant to walk around with fewer “no dogs” or “dogs on leads” signs around. It is not the Dunedin City Council’s role to advocate for increase active transport use. The role of the City Council is to do the basics well of roads, rubbish, and water pipes while keeping the City Council out of debt and the rates low.

I will focus only on what is essential for maintaining what we already have, and I will not spend extra borrowed money by using the ratepayers’ private properties as security for Council debts to spend on things that do not bring revenue in. Dunedin Council needs to reduce its debts by having a balanced budget or a surplus budget.

Dunedin people’s quality of life would be improved by delivering reduced rates, reducing council borrowing, and by reducing operating expenses.
