Kā mihi nunui kia koutou ~ Big mihi to SPOKES Dunedin for the opportunity.
From a 7-Generations perspective, we must seriously plan for a time where we won’t be able to fuel cars with petrol as wantonly as we did last century. Such a time is likely to occur as early as within the next decade and a half.
I dream of an Ōtepoti where we’re working collaboratively to
-
understand and practise ecological economics,
-
bring about (electric) bus fares that are free,
-
bring back (electric) passenger rail
Ōtepoti must continue to develop as a city where residents who are bus users, active walkers and cyclists feel fully supported, safe and encouraged to move around the entire city without fear of injury or lack of access.
I am very disappointed in the Council’s recent resolution, which means that safety measures in Albany Street will not be implemented. Growing the walking and cycling network by connecting up the SH1’s separated cycle lanes, the Harbour shared path, the tertiary precinct and the central city cannot now proceed.
Every public space must be accessible and safe for people who use wheelchairs and/or are vision-impaired. If we get this right, then safety and access for all walkers and cyclists are guaranteed.
Kā mihi nui
Much Gratitude
