Satirical (but reasonably informed) take on Dunedin’s active and public transport concerns.
Kia ora — thanks for reaching out.
I am pushing for walking buses to replace all existing bus lanes to go alongside footpaths and cycle ways. This is integral for ensuring students and commuters are able to get from point A to B as efficiently as possible. Carpeting all the roads is the first step to see all roads walkable.
Investments into walking buses has to be #1. Cycling would be next, and I’m looking to ban cars next time there is an accident, like the university did for bicycles.
It all starts with the weather. Our vision for Ōtepoti will see it less cold and more liveable — this means students and commuters can walk to classes and work without freezing to death. We plan to install heaters on every street corner and place a blanket over the Octagon to achieve this.
