Just checking if members are aware of this survey currently circulating. Might be good to put in some feedback about active transport modes through/around campus?
My (unsolicited) view is that the Dunedin campus should largely remain pedestrianized, but a cycling “avenue” between Albany and Castle Street (or Leith Street) would allow students, staff, and public to safely cut out travel on the one-way system.
Thanks Liam! 3 of the Spokes @committee met up with some good University folk yesterday and chewed over a few of those issues.
Yes, completely agree - this is something that we should submit on as both individuals and as Spokes. @heike and @Robyn - are you well placed to lead our response / guide members?
I agree for through commuter bike / wheeled (non-car) traffic, but not for slow moving / touring / destination riding. The University of Otago is a lovely place to safely cruise through on a bike, and this can be done sympathetically without much risk of conflict - as long as it is clear that pedestrians are the priority traffic.
A straight ban all day looks kind of nuts when most of the areas are quiet for a lot of the day. And as a result it is frequently ignored.
I’ve just done the survey - it is a simple 5 question Survey Monkey one that takes 5 mins:
Please do this too, and lets wave the cycling flag at the University!
I hope you’re doing alright and managing to stay warm as autumn settles in.
You mentioned that you’d be keen to be involved with cycling‑related submissions. I was wondering if you’d be willing to complete this one on behalf of Spokes? Your input would be really valuable
No problem at all if the timing isn’t right, just let me know.
