TDOC - Intersection weight sensors recalibrated for cyclists

Vehicle sensors at intersections recalibrated to set cyclists to trigger them, especially right-turning lanes (that is to say that a bike does not trigger the ground-loop detector and the traffic lights never cycle to give the bike a green light. After a while the cyclist realises this and has to jump the light).

Known problems - feel free to add more examples:

  • Stuart Street near Moana pool

  • Octagon

  • Barns Drive/Caversham Valley Rd (SH1)

  • Rattray St/York Pl/Arthur St

  • David Street/South Road

  • Gardens intersection (all sides)

Problem seems to be widespread, including after new road redesign (i.e. not just a historical issue). Fix needed is therefore:

  1. Recalibrate all existing intersections to increase weight sensitivity, and
  2. Educate and change procedures to make sure weight calibration for cyclists to be the default setting (need to work with DCC or contractors? Or both?)
