Vehicle sensors at intersections recalibrated to set cyclists to trigger them, especially right-turning lanes (that is to say that a bike does not trigger the ground-loop detector and the traffic lights never cycle to give the bike a green light. After a while the cyclist realises this and has to jump the light).
Known problems - feel free to add more examples:
-
Stuart Street near Moana pool
-
Octagon
-
Barns Drive/Caversham Valley Rd (SH1)
-
Rattray St/York Pl/Arthur St
-
David Street/South Road
-
Gardens intersection (all sides)
Problem seems to be widespread, including after new road redesign (i.e. not just a historical issue). Fix needed is therefore:
- Recalibrate all existing intersections to increase weight sensitivity, and
- Educate and change procedures to make sure weight calibration for cyclists to be the default setting (need to work with DCC or contractors? Or both?)
