Revamp / simplification of the spokes.nz site

I’ve spent a bit of time today streamlining our spokes.nz website to make it a better fit for our purposes, and simpler. In brief:

  1. Added Events so that all our events can be in one nicely ordered place.
  2. Merged and simplified the other Categories
  3. Turned off the Chat functionality as they made things quite a bit more complex (we retain Messages which can do the same job)

I haven’t changed the homepage / landing experience yet. @frstep - I know that you’ve got some ideas as to how that can be improved.

Also, @jon.dean - it would be great if we could close down spokesdunedin.wordpress.com somehow. It remains an unhelpful ghost lurking in the background.

Any thoughts / feedback / howls of protest are most welcome!

I’ve exported spokesdunedin.wordpress.com and deleted the site.

Thanks for that Jon - however, it still seems live when I check it. Should it have been instant?

I definitely deleted it - it required typing something quite specific to make it happen.

Could be Cloudflare etc caching it…

It is gone for me now.

Yup! Is for me too:

Thank you for that.

Thanks for all your work on the site.
Howl of protest around disappearing chat centres solely around messages looking more confusing. And I acknowledge that is a me problem which I will eventually get over

Yeah, I like chat more too.

The key issue is that we didn’t use it enough to justify having the additional complexity.

It can easily be switched back on if need be, or limited to just the committee or financial members as required.
