Montreal's cycling network has doubled in 10 years. Is it a success? Depends

Headline aside, this is an insightful piece on what it is like on the cycle advocacy front in a place which has very successfully implemented a solid cycling network:

Of interest to me, the drivers vs cyclists dynamic unfortunately carries on, with political backlash and all that other less than good stuff.

I quite like this quote, which highlights the approach that got them there:

“You don’t evaluate the need to build a bridge by looking at how many people are trying to swim across the rapids,” said Giguère. “When you build it, they will come.”

Meanwhile… same country…

also recently in same country - the province in which I reside much of the time.

It is so frustrating how much push back there is from people whose idea of good is a city with nicely flowing traffic and no people to get in the way.

This highlights how this is very much a political battle, and not just about trying to do stuff to make the world better. The problem is disagreement about what ‘better’ actually is!!!
