Kaikorai valley road could do with a lane realignment - reassign some of the central median to separate the cycle lane from the door zone (see pic below). Green paint and wide borders like on new bit of one way north.
If we work quickly there is an opportunity to do a small portion north of Barr street they are resurfacing at the moment.
There was a point to that silly flush median next the central island. It was originally 2 lanes each way, and they removed one to make it less of a race track. Having the new single lane central was a way of making law abiding traffic block the two lane potential for more free-form drivers
We’ve been told that budgets for maintenance of existing roads and for modifications are completely separate things. There literally millions of dollars inbudgetted for resurfacing/repainting, but practically zero for making any changes. So frustrating.
I know the one way is Waka Kotahi/NZTA not DCC, but they were able to tweak the repainting when they resurfaced Crawford street. Still could do with a bit more green, but the tiny strips of diagonal.hatching really do make it better.
