Illuminating ride?

Is it about time we had a mid-winter night “Illuminati” bike ride? Open to any & everyone to light up their bikes and go for a ride - perhaps harbourside to Octagon or Railway station, but somewhere the public can watch / get some interesting images. It’d be good to link up with the midwinter festival but I suspect that’s coming up a bit to soon perhaps. We could also run a pre-ride workshop with a few supplies and how-tos:

  • Phone charger battery packs for the lighting
  • Cheap LED strings (battery powered) from local stores
  • ESP32 + Neopixel strings + WLED for the more advanced
  • LEDs on spokes
  • other ideas for lighting up the bike, the rider
  • sponsors (equipment supplies)
  • funding for Aliexpress / Temu orders for supplies

Certainly not as big as the Bike Breakfast but could be a bit of fun.

Thoughts?

It’s a great idea. The Crooked Spoke organised one a couple of years ago. We could ask them if they’re planning another one. Making it kid-friendly would be cool.

Yes, great idea, a light-up ride would be really fun. The event in Hastings looks amazing, with a big turnout, and some impressive decorations/costumes!

It would be great to link up with the Midwinter Festival but yes - perhaps a bit more planning time is needed. I’m now trying to think of another early-evening event coming up that we could ride to / from / through. Or a standalone event on a Friday or Saturday evening, when people are out and about, might also work well.
