Kia ora Spokes Dunedin,
I’m writing to let you know that Dunedin City Council is seeking feedback on proposed speed limit changes for five roads across Dunedin. Consultation opens on Monday 19 October 2026 and closes at 5pm on Monday 30 November 2026.
The proposed changes aim to improve safety outcomes for all road users and ensure speed limits better reflect how these roads are used.
The roads included in this consultation are:
-
John Wilson Ocean Drive and Kettle Park Road: reduce the speed limit from 50km/h to 30km/h.
-
Dalziel Road: reduce the speed limit from 70km/h to either 50km/h or 60km/h.
-
McMaster Road: reduce the speed limit from 100km/h to 60km/h.
-
Three Mile Hill Road: reduce the speed limit from 80km/h to 60km/h on a 1.82km section of road where the majority of crashes since 2020 have occurred.
These roads were identified through a review that considered factors such as changing road use, increased pedestrian and cyclist activity, residential growth, community concerns, and road safety risks.
You can find more information about the proposals, including maps, supporting information and an online submission form, at: Proposed Speed Limit Changes - Dunedin City Council
