Overview
Several people have told me that they struggle to control the number of emails that they receive. This is a vital part of how people interact with the site, and people vary in what they would prefer. There are 3 basic alternatives:
You control these via your email settings.
Specific control:
Watching and
Muting
You can tweak very precisely what you get notified about (and thus emailed if this is still enabled). Just look for the little bell (like this ) - these are on every Topic, Tag, and Category. Click it and you get something like this:
You can also see an overview of the categories and tags you are watching.
Personal Things Only (the Default)
We have settled on the default of only sending emails for
- personal messages
- when something is specifically directed at you
- an Activity Summary

The Bare Minimum
If you primarily use the app / website, emails can become annoying fast. Fortunately, they are easy to turn off via your email settings.
Also, you can do this via the link at the bottom of every single email from spokes.nz:
Mailing List Mode: Email everything!

If you love your Inbox, then this is for you. Youβll get lots of emails; you can deal with these as you wish. You can still visit the site and interact there directly, of course.
We donβt generally recommend this as you are more likely to miss the more important and relevant content. These will tend to be drowned out in the subsequent email snowstorm
.
You enable this via the bottom option of your email settings (donβt forget to hit Save Changes
):
