COFFEE OUTSIDE (with bikes)

Coffee outside happens in different ways in a lot of different places. Cyclists in Edmonton have a regular Friday before work coffee in the park where they stop for a while and talk. Other groups ride different trails taking their compact coffee kits for a snack size cycle adventure. Seems like it’s worth finding out how it could happen here.

Anyone with an interest in cycling in Ōtepoti Dunedin is most welcome to come join an inaugural Coffee Outside meet-up at the museum reserve near the old post office Saturday 30th November, any time from 8.30 - 9.30 am.

Bring your best outdoor coffee/tea making kit, or take your chances on what others provide. There will definitely be spare cups.

Thanks for spearheading this Robyn and lovely to meet you last night at the in person meeting.
For those who have no idea how #CoffeeOutside could work, here is a short video from a Oct 2024 of Calgarians enjoying Coffee Outside during cooler “fall” weather. While I was in Calgary at the time, I missed that meeting for some reason. Maybe to increase Spokes visibility someone can make a short video of the inaugural Dunedin event! Thank you for the invite Robyn, I may actually be able to make the 30 Nov morning event and look forward to attending more morning coffee meetups on my bike and chatting about cycling advocacy in Dunedin.

Nice! I’ve added an ‘Event’ to your post, @Robyn. It is a little tricky to do that (is hidden under the :gear: icon) - I’ll look at how that can be made easier.

You could look to Whanganui-a-Tara for inspiration too! Cycle Aware Poneke have Picnic in Parks every Friday, where people gather to have coffee/lunch, located typically over two parking spots that are located outside a cafe where you can get flat whites / lattes / espresso.

See more here!

I’ll pop this up on Biking In Dunedin FB group today as well, see if we can get a few more onto Spokes

Yeah, realised I’d fallen off that particular wagon a while ago. To be sorted.

Forecast is looking promising for Saturday morning.
I’ve sourced a fine spice blend for masala chai if coffee isn’t your thing I’d be happy to share. Looking forward to seeing some of you there. If DIY coffee isn’t your thing I note that Precinct over in the Otago Museum open at 9.

Thank you all for coming. Lots of great chats, and putting voices to online profile pics and words. Seems like it’s worth keeping on going
So watch this space for the next time and place.
If you want to get involved in coordinating these head on over to the members’ section and find the topic over there.Feedback welcome here, but I’d like to keep all the organising discussion in one place.
