While there are some great cycling hotspots in Aus (Perth, central Melbourne), they have very similar problems and stats to us here in NZ.
This article highlights that converting residential streets from 50kph to 30kph (with some tweaks to facilitate actual slowing) is cheap and doesn’t actually impact on car journey times. At the same time, the benefit is very high: safer and more pleasant cycling, and secondarily more cyclists.
Hopefully we won’t be stuck in reverse on this front much longer (sigh).
