Minimal engagement with questions, focusing on economic development aspects. Notes personal inability to cycle and recent arrival to Dunedin. Views active transport primarily through tourism/economic lens without addressing safety or infrastructure specifics.

Dear Devonia,

Thank you for reaching out to candidates, and for the opportunity for me personally. I am glad to provide a written response to your questions, however I note you have mentioned to also get in touch and I would be very happy then to speak personally.

On a personal note, I cannot cycle without training wheels presumably. I would be very happy if someone from Spokes will assist me in getting started in cycling on a leisurely beginner route in the near future.

I am also very recently moved (or moved back) to Dunedin to live. My past career background is of a former international banker with leading Canadian, Dutch, Swiss and Singapore banks based in Singapore. I have 25 years experience in global finance and economics, and have lived in 5 countries.

Active transport initiatives have a vital role to me in bringing economic growth, job creation and wage growth, sustainable tourism including lifestyle new residents, long-stay career break visitors, talent, entrepreneurs and investment to Dunedin, which is a key part of my expertise and campaign in standing for Mayor and Councillor.

Our active transport initiatives are key with our city’s attractions, heritage and oldest university in driving our economy forward. I would gladly speak on my vision for this with you at a private or public candidate venue.

Best regards,

Ben
